CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Bhopal: Bhopal/Mumbai: Ahead of IPL 2027, five-time champions Mumbai Indians have made a major change in their coaching staff. The franchise has decided to part ways with three experienced coaches, including Sri Lankan pace great Lasith Malinga. The list also includes Paras Mhambrey and fielding coach Carl Hopkinson. Mumbai Indians made the official announcement on October 29.

The three coaches had a long association with Mumbai. Lasith Malinga has been among Mumbai Indians’ most successful players. He took 170 wickets in 122 matches for the team and played a key role in winning four IPL titles. After retiring as a player, he remained associated with the franchise as mentor and bowling coach.

Paras Mhambrey’s first stint with Mumbai Indians ran from 2010 to 2017. He then returned to the team’s coaching staff in 2024. Carl Hopkinson had joined the team as fielding coach ahead of the 2025 season.

The change in the coaching staff comes after the departure of head coach Mahela Jayawardene and the appointment of Kieron Pollard as the new head coach. Mumbai Indians announced Pollard’s appointment on October 24. Under his leadership, the franchise will now prepare for IPL 2027 with a new coaching group.

Mumbai will enter with a new strategy. In IPL 2026, Mumbai Indians’ performance was not as expected and the team finished ninth in the points table. In this situation, the change in the coaching setup ahead of the coming season is being seen as part of the team’s new strategy.
