CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal :  Mumbai Metro and Monorail services collectively clocked a daily ridership of 9.9 lakh passengers, highlighting the growing reliance on public transport in India’s financial capital. Officials say the figure is expected to cross 10 lakh with the inauguration of new metro lines in the coming months.

The increasing ridership reflects the city’s ongoing efforts to enhance connectivity, reduce traffic congestion, and promote sustainable urban mobility. Current metro and monorail routes serve key residential and commercial hubs, offering commuters a faster and more convenient alternative to road travel.

With multiple new lines under construction, including Metro Line 2B, Line 7, and Line 5 extensions, authorities anticipate a significant boost in daily passenger numbers. The expansion is aimed at connecting suburban areas with central business districts, providing seamless travel options and reducing travel time for thousands of daily commuters.

Officials also highlighted measures being taken to improve passenger experience, including additional trains during peak hours, upgraded safety protocols, and modernized ticketing systems.

Urban transport experts believe that these infrastructure developments will not only ease traffic woes but also encourage more residents to switch to public transport, contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable city.

The Mumbai Metro and Monorail ridership milestone marks a significant step toward the city’s long-term urban mobility goals, underscoring the importance of continued investment and expansion in public transportation networks.
