CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Mumbai Police have registered a case against leaders of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and more than 400 supporters over the protest held near Shivaji Park on October 2. The case names CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke and leaders including Pranav Ahire, Ashutosh Ranka, Ajinkya Shinde, Saurabh Das, Afreen Nawaz, Saumya Korde, Ankit Bharadwaj, Vijay Malangi and Yogesh Ingle. Police said the gathering took place despite permission for the proposed protest at Shivaji Park being denied.

The FIR includes provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, relating to unlawful assembly and disobedience of a lawful order, along with sections of the Maharashtra Police Act concerning prohibited activities and violation of police orders. According to police, the organisers had been informed that permission could not be granted for the gathering at Shivaji Park.

Authorities cited a 2013 Bombay High Court order and a subsequent Maharashtra government order restricting the use of the ground for activities other than sports. Police also raised concerns about noise pollution, traffic congestion and possible disruption in an area containing residential buildings and hospitals.

The CJP protest was organised to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and raise allegations concerning the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. CJP leader Abhijeet Dipke has said the movement will continue despite the case.
