CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal:Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced an ambitious plan to integrate Mumbai’s transport system by 2029, promising that city travel will be reduced to just 59 minutes. Speaking at a development conference, Fadnavis emphasized the need for seamless connectivity across road, rail, metro, and water transport networks.
The CM highlighted Navi Mumbai as a key area for infrastructural development, urging authorities to focus on smart urban planning, modern transit corridors, and enhanced public transport facilities. “Our vision is to make commuting faster, safer, and more efficient. Integrated transport will not only reduce travel time but also decongest city roads,” Fadnavis said.
He further detailed plans to link suburban trains, metro lines, and bus rapid transit systems to create a unified network. Advanced traffic management systems and digital ticketing solutions are also expected to be implemented to improve commuter experience.
Urban planners and transport experts welcomed the initiative, stating that reducing travel time can significantly boost productivity and quality of life for Mumbaikars. Fadnavis assured that public-private partnerships will be leveraged for financing and technological innovation in the project.
The CM’s vision aims to position Mumbai as a global city with modern, integrated transportation infrastructure while promoting the growth of Navi Mumbai as a commercial and residential hub. Officials have been directed to submit detailed plans for phased implementation over the next four years.
With this integrated approach, Mumbai is expected to become a model for urban mobility in India, improving efficiency, sustainability, and citizen satisfaction across the metropolitan region.
