CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Bhopal: Mumbai. The national launch of Global Dignity Day 2026 was held in Mumbai with the objective of honouring the contribution of the workers who keep the city’s everyday life running smoothly. More than 250 people attended the programme held on October 21 at INT Aditya Birla Performing Arts Academy. Participants included frontline workers, representatives from the corporate world, and people associated with the transport and automobile sectors.

From drivers to sanitation workers, the event, organised by the Work With Dignity Foundation, highlighted the contribution of people whose labour keeps the city’s transport system, cleanliness and essential services functioning. The honours focused on commercial vehicle drivers, logistics workers, sanitation workers of municipal bodies, caregivers associated with public health services, and grassroots entrepreneurs from Dharavi.

The theme of this year’s programme was “Beyond roles and hierarchies – dignity for all.” Its objective was to convey the message that respect for a person should not differ on the basis of their work, position or social background. Ram Shankar Pandey, CEO of the Work With Dignity Foundation, said the city depends every day on the contribution of people whose labour often does not receive adequate recognition. He stressed making respect at the workplace part of everyday work culture, rather than limiting it to a single day.

The initiative also received support from several organisations, including the All India Transporters Welfare Association (AITWA), the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA) and the Automotive Skills Development Council (ASDC). The programme emphasised that every person contributing to the city’s progress should receive respect, fair treatment and dignified working conditions.
