CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The murder of a 23-year-old student in Hubballi’s BVB College on Thursday rocked Karnataka. The victim was identified as Neha, the daughter of a Congress Corporator, who was stabbed inside her college campus by a former classmate.
The accused had fled the scene after stabbing Neha multiple times before being caught by the police. Here are five things to know about the unfortunate incident that shocked Karnataka:
- The accused was identified as Fayaz, a resident of Belagavi district. According to news reports, the 23-year-old was stalking Neha for several days after she rejected his proposal. The two were classmates before Neha joined the Masters of Computer Applications (MCA) course at BVB College.
- The brutal crime was caught on a college CCTV camera. It showed a scared Neha being brought to the ground by the accused as she tried to flee. She was stabbed multiple times by the man before running away. A few people watched the assault from a distance in shock, the video showed.
- The attack happened around 4:45 PM on Thursday. She was stabbed six or seven times by Fayaz. Neha was rushed to a hospital by college authorities and other students. Unfortunately, the first-year PG student was declared dead on arrival by the doctors, reports said.
- Vidyanagar police played a crucial role in nabbing Fayaz. Neha’s father Niranjan Hiremath, a Congress Corporator, told media that the accused and his daughter were classmates. The family was aware of Fayaz wanting a romantic relationship with Neha. According to Niranjan, Neha was not interested in an inter-religious relationship and rejected the proposal. As Fayaz was known to the family, they also tried to convince him to leave Neha alone, he told media.
