American billionaire businessman Elon Musk has once again demonstrated his financial muscle in political donations in support of President Donald Trump and the Republican Party. Ahead of the US midterm elections scheduled for November 2026, Musk has provided major financial support to Republican candidates and affiliated political organisations. According to Associated Press and Reuters reports dated October 12, 2026, Musk has given more than $276 million to pro-Republican organisations since July, while his total political spending in the 2026 election cycle has reached nearly $366 million.
The money given by Musk is aimed at helping the Republican Party retain its majority in the US Congress. A large share of his contributions has gone to political organisations supporting Republican candidates in Senate and House of Representatives races. According to the reports, Musk gave about $158 million to the Senate Leadership Fund and more than $76 million to his political organisation, America PAC. In addition, he gave $10 million to an organisation supporting Republican Senate candidate Ken Paxton in Texas. These contributions are providing financial help to the Republican Party for election campaigning, advertising and voter outreach drives.
Musk’s move is also significant because he had earlier expressed a desire to reduce spending on political activity. In May 2025, he indicated that he would spend less on political donations in the future. However, his growing contributions ahead of the 2026 midterm elections show his active role in American politics. In the 2024 presidential election as well, Musk spent large sums in support of Trump and other Republican candidates. His total political contribution in that election cycle was reported at about $290 million. His spending in the 2026 election cycle has now surpassed that level.
