After the Republican Party suffered a crushing defeat in the US midterm elections, billionaire businessman Elon Musk deleted some posts from social media platform X that had supported Republican candidates. These included a post made on October 29 in which he had appealed to American voters to vote for Republican senators. After the election results were declared, the post was no longer visible on his account.
Musk had spent about $458 million, or approximately Rs 4,400 crore, in support of Republican candidates and political groups linked to them in the 2026 midterm elections. According to records related to election financing, the amount made him the largest individual political donor of this election cycle. He had particularly supported Republican candidate Ken Paxton for the Texas Senate seat, but Democratic candidate James Talarico defeated him.
After the Democrats’ major success in the election, Musk made a sarcastic comment on X, writing that his alleged efforts with electoral influence did not work. He also mentioned the possibility of building data centres in space.
Along with this political setback, Musk’s wealth also declined. After the election results, reports said his net worth fell by about $23.7 billion, or approximately Rs 2 lakh crore, due to a drop in shares linked to Tesla and SpaceX. However, Musk has not publicly clarified the reason for deleting the posts.
