CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: N. Chandrasekaran has announced that he will step down as Chairman of Tata Sons after completing his current term, which ends on February 20, 2027. His decision marks a significant leadership transition for the Tata Group and comes ahead of the company’s Annual General Meeting scheduled for August 18.

Chandrasekaran said he had communicated his decision to the Tata Sons Board and requested that the board begin the process of identifying his successor to ensure a smooth leadership transition. His announcement follows uncertainty surrounding his continuation on the board and discussions over his reappointment.

The development comes amid reported tensions between Tata Sons and Tata Trusts, which hold a controlling stake in the holding company. The issue of Chandrasekaran’s continuation had gained importance ahead of the upcoming AGM, where his position and board membership were expected to attract attention.

Chandrasekaran has led Tata Sons since February 2017 and has played a major role in steering the conglomerate across technology, automotive, steel, aviation and other sectors. His tenure has included major strategic moves, including the consolidation of Tata’s aviation businesses and expansion into emerging industries.

Although he will not seek another term, Chandrasekaran is expected to continue serving until his present tenure expires in February 2027, allowing time for an orderly succession process.

The announcement is likely to have wide implications for the future leadership and strategic direction of one of India’s most prominent business groups. Investors, employees and stakeholders will now closely watch the Tata Sons Board’s decision on the next chairman.
