CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: If a sudden nail-like or sharp stabbing pain is felt under the heel, especially when getting out of bed in the morning, it may be a sign of plantar fasciitis. It is one of the most common causes of heel pain. In this condition, excessive pressure on the thick tissue under the sole of the foot, the plantar fascia, can lead to irritation and microscopic injuries.
In this problem, the pain is often most severe during the first few steps in the morning. It may reduce after walking for some time, but can increase again after standing, walking or running for long periods. Standing for long periods on hard surfaces, suddenly increasing physical activity, foot structure and shoes that do not provide adequate support can increase the risk.
Plantar fasciitis is not always the cause of heel pain. Heel injury, stress fracture, Achilles tendinitis, bursitis or nerve-related problems may also be responsible. Therefore, persistent or severe pain should not be ignored.
If the pain continues, walking becomes difficult, or there is severe pain and swelling after an injury, it is important to consult a doctor. Treatment should be decided only after the correct cause is confirmed.
