CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: “A national seminar on the role of Culture and Media was organized under the joint auspices of Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication and the Media and Social Media Research Foundation at Swami Vivekananda Auditorium in Makhanpuram. The seminar was presided over by the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. K.G. Suresh. The chief guest of the seminar was former Central Information Commissioner Uday Mahurkar, the keynote speaker was Vikas Dave, Director of Madhya Pradesh Sahitya Akademi, and the special guest was Bhopal Police Commissioner Harinarayanachari Mishra.
On this occasion, Dr. Suresh stated that culture is reflected in our behavior, attire, and values. He added that Indian culture is embedded in our life philosophy and heritage. Suresh emphasized that the ultimate truth of culture should be society and the nation.
Mr. Uday Mahurkar expressed deep concern about the distorted content on OTT platforms, describing it as a significant threat to society and culture. He called for strict laws to be made against such distorted content. Mahurkar also highlighted the dangers of pornography, stating that it is a primary cause behind heinous crimes like rape.
Special guest Bhopal Police Commissioner Harinarayanachari Mishra remarked that the purpose of media should be to publish positive news rather than sensational stories. He discussed the significant impact media has on society and expressed concern over the information explosion in the digital age. Addressing the influence of media and technology on life, he noted that the changes seen in the last decade surpass those of the past 100 years.
Keynote speaker Vikas Dave, Director of Madhya Pradesh Sahitya Akademi, spoke about India’s glorious history. He described culture as the fifth element, stating that it is essential for nation-building.”
