CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Bhopal: A pilot project under the Prime Minister Skilling and Employability Transformation Through Upgraded ITIs (PM SETU) programme, run by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India, began on Monday at the Centre for Research and Industrial Staff Performance (CRISP), Bhopal.
Under the programme, around 40 ITI instructors will be trained in two phases. In the first phase, 23 instructors from Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh are being trained in Mechatronics from June 15 to 19. In the second phase, other instructors will be trained in Industrial Automation from June 22 to 26. The objective of these training programmes is to equip instructors in line with the latest industrial technologies and current industry requirements.
Abhay Arun Mahishi, Regional Director, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India, attended the inaugural session at the CRISP campus as the chief guest. CRISP Director Amol Vaidya, Head of the Electrical and Electronics Department Vijay Saxena, Senior Manager Dr. Sudhir Jain, faculty members and other officials were also present.

In the inaugural session, Amol Vaidya highlighted the institute’s activities and achievements and said CRISP is conducting advanced technical training programmes across the country for industries, government departments and training institutions. He said regular skill upgradation of trainers is essential to improve the quality of technical education.
Addressing the programme, Abhay Arun Mahishi said technology is changing rapidly and training curricula are being continuously revised in line with industry demand. He said the importance of fields such as robotics, industrial automation, mechatronics and the Internet of Things is steadily increasing, making it necessary for trainers to keep themselves constantly updated. He added that older courses are also being modified and improved from time to time to match industry needs so that students receive modern, employment-oriented training.

He said PM SETU is an ambitious Government of India scheme aimed at developing government ITIs across the country in line with modern, industry-oriented and future technological requirements. Under the scheme, 1,000 government ITIs will be upgraded in phases and strengthened with advanced machinery, modern laboratories, industry participation and better training facilities. Along with this, new industry-based courses will be introduced and existing courses will be redesigned in line with modern technologies. The main objective of the scheme is to make youth employable and build a strong skill ecosystem toward making India a developed nation by 2047.
Mahishi said that in the present era, knowledge acquired only once is no longer enough, and continuous upskilling and reskilling have become the need of the hour. Urging participants to make the most of the training, he said the success of such programmes should not be measured only by examination marks, but by the increase in knowledge and skills gained. He also encouraged participants to make the training as interactive as possible and to share their experiences and technical knowledge with one another.

He said special emphasis is being placed on capacity building of trainers under the PM SETU scheme. As part of this effort, CRISP has been selected to host the country’s first national-level pilot Training of Trainers programme. He said the selection reflects CRISP’s expertise and credibility in the field of technical training and trainer development.
During the training programme, participants will receive theoretical and practical training related to mechatronics, automation, industrial control systems and modern industrial technologies. The initiative at CRISP is being seen as an important step toward strengthening trainer capacity and giving a new direction to skill development in the country.
