People hugged trees in Nava Raipur to protest the planned felling of 1,100 trees for a proposed Film City project.

In Nava Raipur, people staged a Chipko movement-style protest against the cutting of 1,100 trees for the proposed Film City project. Protesters hugged the trees and appealed for them to be saved. They said cutting a large number of trees in the name of a development project could have a serious impact on the environment and the local ecology.

The plan to cut trees for the construction of Film City has angered environmentalists and local residents. Protesters have demanded that the trees be saved and an alternative site be identified for the project. Their protest recalled the Chipko movement, in which people hugged trees to protect them.

Meanwhile, the department concerned said saplings 10 times the number of trees to be cut would be planted. The department has said the loss of green cover would be compensated through plantation.

On the other hand, environmental experts have expressed concern over the impact of felling the trees. Experts claim this could affect oxygen availability equivalent to the daily requirement of about 10,000 people. However, it will be important to assess the scientific basis of this claim and the actual environmental impact.

The debate over balancing the Film City project with environmental protection has now intensified.
