CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The NCC unit of Babulal Gaur Government Postgraduate College, BHEL, Bhopal, organised a “Waste to Wonder” activity under the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan.
Principal Dr Sanjay Jain said the main objective of the activity was to raise awareness about recycling and reuse of waste materials, encourage environmental conservation, and develop creativity and a spirit of sustainable development among students.
As part of the activity, NCC cadets recycled and reused unused and waste materials to create several attractive and useful products. The cadets made paper bags and conveyed the message of adopting environment-friendly alternatives.
Cadet Nitesh Rai, a B.A. first-year student, made a beautiful flower vase from an unused bottle and decorative flowers from polythene. Mamta Gujarati, a B.A. second-year student, prepared an attractive chandelier from waste cups, while Ashutosh Soni, a B.Sc. first-year student, made a useful dustbin from cardboard.
In addition, the cadets made pen holders, decorative fancy bangles, plant holders, flower pots and various other decorative and useful items from waste material. Through these artistic products, the students demonstrated that with the right thinking and creative efforts, waste material can also be converted into a useful resource.
Through the programme, the cadets were informed about the importance of “reduce, reuse and recycle”. A message was also given about the environmental ill-effects caused by the uncontrolled use of plastic and other waste materials.
NCC Officer Lieutenant Dr Varsha Chauhan, Aarti Patel and Priyanka Vishwakarma extended support in organising the programme.
The initiative inspired students to understand their responsibility towards the environment and adopt reuse and recycling in daily life. The message of the programme was: “Understand waste as a resource; protect the environment through reuse.”
