CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: NCERT clarifies no topic removed from Class 9 mathematics syllabus

New Delhi. The National Council of Educational Research and Training has clarified its position on questions raised over the newly drafted Class 9 mathematics syllabus. NCERT said no complete topic has been removed from the draft mathematics curriculum. Some concepts have been included in other chapters instead of being retained as separate chapters.

According to NCERT, several key concepts related to lines and angles have been included in the second part of Class 9 in chapters such as propositions and their converses, and quadrilaterals. Similarly, concepts related to Euclidean geometry have also been placed in various chapters of the Class 9 mathematics book. The council said that after suggestions received from teachers and education experts, instead of retaining traditionally separate chapters on axioms, theorems and proof-based geometry in the same form, it has adopted an approach of explaining the related concepts across different chapters.

NCERT also said that a chapter related to algorithms has been included in Class 9 mathematics. Its objective is to help students develop an understanding of the mathematical foundations linked to artificial intelligence, data structures and computational thinking. NCERT said the current syllabus is still in draft form and will be finalised on the basis of suggestions received from teachers, students and other stakeholders. The final syllabus is expected to be released in October by NCERT and the Central Board of Secondary Education.
