CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Delhi: CNN Central News and Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News / Agencies: The Ajit Pawar faction of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has rejected speculation about a merger with the Sharad Pawar-led NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar). The party clarified that it is united under the leadership of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and NCP president Sunetra Pawar. The clarification came after senior party leaders met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi.

On November 2, senior leaders including Praful Patel, Sunil Tatkare, Dilip Walse Patil, Hasan Mushrif, Chhagan Bhujbal and Dhananjay Munde met Amit Shah. Sunetra Pawar and her son Parth Pawar were not present at the meeting. After this, discussions began about internal differences in the party and a possible merger of the two NCP factions.

NCP national chief spokesperson Umesh Patil described these reports as wrong, baseless and misleading. He said the meeting had been scheduled in advance and that Sunetra Pawar and Parth Pawar had earlier met Amit Shah to discuss party-related issues. The party is part of the Mahayuti alliance and is united under Sunetra Pawar’s leadership.

After the party’s core committee meeting, state president Sunil Tatkare also ruled out the possibility of a merger. He said the process of dialogue and collective decision-making within the party would continue.

The issue of the finance portfolio in the Maharashtra government being returned to the NCP was also raised in the meeting. The portfolio was earlier held by the late Ajit Pawar and is currently with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The party has said a decision in this regard will be taken at the appropriate time.

For now, the NCP has described the merger reports as speculation and reiterated its organisational unity and its position of working under Sunetra Pawar’s leadership.
