CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: A special training program was organized by the team of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) at Madhya Pradesh Bhoj Open University for the students and staff of the university.

In this program, NDRF officers and personnel trained the students on how to protect life and property during disasters and how to help save others’ lives. The training was conducted under a special capacity-building initiative.

Along with the students, the university’s staff and officers were also present at the event.

NDRF Assistant Commandant Syed Badshah Sikandar informed that the NDRF was established in 2006 by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). It comprises 16 battalions, and its primary role is to assist in rescue, relief, and rehabilitation during various natural and man-made disasters.

Personnel for NDRF are drawn from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Border Security Force (BSF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).

The NDRF specializes in rescue operations during tsunamis and other human-induced disasters.

He demonstrated the correct technique of administering CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) to the students and had them practice it as well. He emphasized how to stay safe during earthquakes, floods, and other man-made hazards.

Mr. Sikandar said that heart attacks and heat strokes are considered national disasters in India, and warned the general public to adopt healthier lifestyles. He advised avoiding oily foods, limiting mobile phone use, and reducing mental stress to prevent such emergencies.

He explained that chemical disasters are man-made, and it’s important to understand the nature of each chemical — for example, ammonia tends to rise, while chlorine tends to settle, and some chemicals are highly flammable.

Students and staff enthusiastically participated in this training program.

On this occasion, a tree plantation drive was also organized at Madhya Pradesh Bhoj Open University, in which NDRF officers, personnel, university staff, and officials actively took part.

The program was anchored by Ms. Nidhi Rawal Gautam, Senior Advisor of the university, and introduced by Dr. Ratan Suryavanshi, Director of the Student Support Division.

The vote of thanks was delivered by the university’s Registrar, Mr. Sushil Manderia.
