CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Neelam Hospital completes 100-plus surgeries with Toumai robotic system in six months

Rajpura. Neelam Hospital in Punjab has reported completing more than 100 robotic surgeries in six months with the help of the Toumai robotic surgical system. According to the hospital, the achievement reflects the rapid expansion of its robotic surgery programme and the training of its medical team.

The MedBot Toumai system being used at the hospital offers features such as high-quality three-dimensional visual technology, improved control over instruments and reduced tremors. The technology assists surgeons in controlling robotic instruments, and the robot does not perform surgery independently.

According to Dr. Nitin Gupta, medical director and robotic surgeon at Neelam Hospital, crossing the 100-surgery mark is the result of the team’s training, surgical expertise and the development of coordinated operation theatre capability. Doctors at the hospital, including Dr. Shikha Gupta and Dr. Gaurika Aggarwal, have undergone special training for robotic procedures.

The Toumai system is being used at the hospital in urology, gynaecology, gastrointestinal and other selected surgical procedures. In suitable patients, robotic surgery can enable minimally invasive surgery features such as smaller incisions and reduced tissue damage. However, the choice of procedure depends on the patient’s condition and the surgeon’s medical assessment.
