Naib Subedar Neeru Dhanda Makes Asian Games History With Trap Gold

CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Naib Subedar Neeru Dhanda of the Army has created history at the Asian Games.

Nagoya. Indian shooter Neeru Dhanda created history at the Asian Games 2026 by winning the gold medal in the women’s individual trap event. Neeru, a Naib Subedar in the Indian Army, finished first in the final after hitting 28 of 30 targets. Her performance also set a new Asian Games record in the event.

The 26-year-old from Jind in Haryana is associated with the Corps of Military Police of the Indian Army and trains at the Army Marksmanship Unit. She was originally inspired to take up shooting by her cousin Lakshay Sheoran. Lakshay won the silver medal in the men’s trap event at the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games.

Neeru initially practised with her family’s gun and later trained at the Madhya Pradesh Shooting Academy. She then established her identity at the international level. In 2026, at the ISSF Shotgun World Cup held in Lonato, Italy, she also became the first Indian woman to win gold in the women’s individual trap event.

Neeru is the first Indian woman to win an Asian Games gold in individual trap. Earlier in the same competition, she had also won a silver medal in the women’s team trap event with Ashima Ahlawat and Manisha Keer. Neeru’s achievement has brought another historic success for Indian shooting.
