NEET SS qualifying cutoff reduced to 30th percentile for doctors

CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: A major update has emerged for doctors. The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences, or NBEMS, has reduced the qualifying cutoff for NEET-SS 2025. The minimum qualifying criterion for candidates has now been lowered from the 50th percentile to the 30th percentile. Candidates scoring at or above the 30th percentile will be considered qualified in the relevant question paper group.

NBEMS issued a revised notice in this regard on September 22, 2026. The board has also sent the revised result to the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC). However, there has been no change in the previously declared question paper group-specific ranks of candidates, and no new scorecards will be issued.

The change in cutoff has been made to prevent super speciality seats from remaining vacant. After the second round of counselling, 1,857 super speciality seats were left vacant across the country. These included 1,094 DM/MCh seats and 763 DNB-SS seats. The Centre had informed the Supreme Court about reducing the cutoff for a special stray vacancy round.

After the revised cutoff, around 6,000 additional candidates may become eligible for the counselling process. The revised minimum scores are different for different question paper groups, so candidates will have to check the cutoff for their respective group.
