CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: New Delhi. India’s National Eligibility cum Entrance Test-Undergraduate, or NEET UG, has become one of the world’s largest examinations. According to a recent research report by the State Bank of India, NEET UG has been described as the world’s fifth-largest examination on the basis of the number of applications. It receives around 25 lakh applications every year.

According to the report, China’s Gaokao examination ranks first on the list, with around 1.29 crore applications. Brazil’s ENEM is in second place with around 48 lakh applications. China’s central civil services examination, known as Guokao, ranks third with around 37 lakh applications. China’s national master’s entrance examination is fourth with around 34 lakh applications.

India’s NEET UG follows in fifth place with around 25 lakh applications. Türkiye’s YKS examination records around 24 lakh applications, Nigeria’s UTME around 22 lakh, and the SAT examination in the United States around 20 lakh applications.

For NEET UG 2026, 22,79,743 candidates had registered, while about 19,99,895 candidates appeared for the examination and 11,21,185 candidates qualified. The examination this year was held on June 21.

The report also mentioned other major examinations in India. The Union Public Service Commission’s Civil Services Examination receives around 12 lakh applications, JEE Main around 10 lakh, and the University Grants Commission’s National Eligibility Test around 8 lakh applications.
