CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: New Delhi. Preparations are under way for major changes in the NEET-UG examination system. The Ministry of Education is working to create a computer-based examination framework across the country so that large entrance tests such as NEET can be conducted online in the future. At present, NEET-UG is held in pen-and-paper mode.

The preparations come amid efforts to make the examination system more secure after the question paper leak case that surfaced in NEET-UG 2026. The Central Bureau of Investigation registered an FIR in the case, carried out an investigation and arrested several accused. According to the government investigation, some questions linked to the question paper were allegedly leaked before the examination.

The Education Ministry’s plan is not limited to NEET. Consideration is being given to building a nationwide network of secure computer-based examination centres with uniform standards. Issues such as availability of examination centres, computer security, technical facilities and access for candidates in rural areas are being kept in mind.

However, no final decision has yet been taken on when NEET will definitely be conducted in CBT mode. Recommendations of the high-level task force headed by Nandan Nilekani on examination reforms are also awaited. The final examination format and date will be confirmed only through an official notification by the National Testing Agency.
