CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Nepal Political Parties Push for All-Party Government Amid Rising Support for Former King Gyanendra

In response to the growing public wave in support of Nepal’s former King Gyanendra Shah, major political parties in the country have begun efforts to form an all-party government. This initiative has been spearheaded by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli himself. Oli has invited opposition leader and Maoist party chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ to his residence for discussions today. He has also invited Sher Bahadur Deuba, leader of the ruling coalition and president of the Nepali Congress Party, to attend the meeting.

Prime Minister Oli’s chief political advisor, Bishnu Rimal, stated that a meeting of the top leaders of all three parties will be held at 4 PM today at the Prime Minister’s official residence. The leaders will deliberate on the current political scenario. Rimal expressed concern that increased activities by the former king pose a threat to Nepal’s democracy and republican system.

Notably, Prachanda has been leading a nationwide campaign against the Oli government and the current ruling coalition for the past ten days. Following Oli’s invitation, he returned to Kathmandu on Sunday evening. Maoist party spokesperson Agni Sapkota emphasized the need for all parties to unite amid the present political situation. He said forming an all-party government is everyone’s responsibility to face the emerging challenges.

Nepali Congress Vice President Purna Bahadur Khadka also supported the idea, stating that unity among all parties is necessary to counter the growing public support for monarchy. He added that the best solution right now is to establish an all-party government and expressed optimism that today’s meeting would lead to some agreement on the matter.
