After heavy rainfall in Nepal, increased river flows have raised the threat of flooding in several parts of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. Rising water levels in the Gandak and Narayani rivers have begun spreading into border areas, affecting daily life in many villages.
In Bihar’s West Champaran district, the water level of the Gandak river has risen rapidly. After a large volume of water was released from the Valmikinagar barrage, flood-like conditions developed in Bagaha and nearby low-lying areas. The administration has intensified monitoring in sensitive areas and advised people to remain alert.
In Kushinagar, Uttar Pradesh, water moved towards nearby villages after a breach in the embankment of the Narayani river. People in the affected areas have been advised to move to safer places. NDRF and SDRF teams have also been activated for rescue operations.
In the Palia area of Lakhimpur Kheri, the Sharda river is also flowing above the danger mark because of water coming from Nepal. Water has entered several villages, and waterlogging has been reported at some houses and on connecting roads in some places. There are reports that river erosion has damaged several houses. The administration has advised people living in low-lying areas to remain alert and move to safer locations if required. Water levels and the condition of embankments are being continuously monitored.
