CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Delhi: New aviation rules from January 2027 require full ticket price disclosure

New Delhi: A major change is set to take place in the rules governing air travel in the country. The central government has notified the Indian Aircraft Rules, 2026. The new rules will come into force from January 1, 2027, and will replace the nearly 90-year-old Aircraft Rules, 1937. Under the new provisions, airlines will have to provide passengers with full details of fares and other charges at the time of ticket booking.

According to the new rules, the total amount payable by the passenger will have to be clearly stated on ticket booking websites and on the ticket issued. This must include separate details of the base fare, government taxes, other fees, cancellation charges, refund conditions and other applicable charges. The aim is to help passengers understand before booking how much they will have to pay in total for the ticket.

This arrangement will apply to domestic airlines operating scheduled flights in India as well as foreign airlines operating scheduled flights to and from India. Companies will have to publish fare information on their websites and other digital platforms.

Under the rules, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) will monitor the fares of domestic scheduled airlines. The government will also have the authority, in exceptional circumstances and in the public interest, to issue written fare-related directions to airlines. Such directions will be applicable according to the circumstances and only for a specified period.

However, the new rules do not mean that a permanent cap has been imposed on air ticket prices. Under normal circumstances, airlines will continue to determine fares on the basis of operating costs and other commercial factors.

The new regulatory framework also includes provisions related to aircraft registration, safety certification, maintenance, flight operations, licensing of pilots and other aviation personnel, and airport operations.
