CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Bhopal: CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News / Agencies: A plan has been prepared to build a new four-lane bridge over the Kharun river to improve traffic movement from Tatibandh to Nehru Nagar Chowk in Raipur, the capital of Chhattisgarh. The project is estimated to cost about Rs 163.33 crore. The proposal has been prepared and sent to the Central government for approval. Once approval is received, the next phase of the project process can begin.

The plan includes not only a new bridge but also proposals for improvements on other stretches of the route. A new four-lane bridge, about 200 metres long and around 9.50 metres wide, is proposed over the Kharun river. This construction is estimated to cost about Rs 54 crore.

In addition, RCC crash barriers will be installed between the main road and the service lane for about 18 kilometres between Tatibandh and Nehru Nagar. The width of the service lane is planned to be increased from three metres to six metres. The proposal also includes a flyover of about 600 metres in the Chandnidih area.

A large number of small and heavy vehicles use this route every day. Due to the pressure of heavy vehicles on National Highway-53 and congestion at major intersections, commuters travelling between Raipur and Durg face difficulties. Once the proposed works are completed, they are expected to help reduce traffic pressure, cut travel time and improve road safety. At present, the project is awaiting approval from the Central government.
