CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday night made a major reshuffle of governors and lieutenant governors in nine states and Union Territories of the country. This change comes at a time when the Governor of West Bengal, C.V. Anand Bose, resigned earlier in the day, and political activity is intensifying in several states including Tamil Nadu and Bihar.

According to the notification issued from the Rashtrapati Bhavan, new appointments or additional charges have been assigned in Delhi, Bihar, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Telangana, Himachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Ladakh, and Tamil Nadu.

In Delhi, former ambassador Taranjit Singh Sandhu has been appointed the new Lieutenant Governor. Bihar’s new governor will be Lieutenant General (Retired) Syed Ata Hossain, known for his distinguished service in the Indian Army. In West Bengal, former Tamil Nadu governor R.N. Ravi has been given the new responsibility, a move that surprised Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who stated that Home Minister Amit Shah informed her over the phone but, as per tradition, consultation was not sought.

Maharashtra has received former Telangana governor Jishnu Dev Varma, while Telangana will now have former Himachal Pradesh governor Shiv Pratap Shukla as governor. In Himachal Pradesh, former Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Kavinder Gupta, has been appointed governor. Nagaland’s new governor will be Nand Kishore Yadav. In Ladakh, former Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinay Kumar Saxena has been appointed as the new LG. In Tamil Nadu, Governor of Kerala Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar has been given additional charge.

These changes are happening in politically sensitive states where assembly elections or other significant events are scheduled in the coming months. Experts believe the central government is aiming to strengthen the role of governors through these appointments. The new appointments have come into effect immediately, and the concerned officials will assume office shortly.
