CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The Bharatiya Janata Party has constituted a four-member team including a former chief minister and a former police commissioner to study and report the atrocities against party workers in Tamil Nadu. The delegation has been asked to submit the report at the “earliest”.
In a release, the BJP said, “National President J.P. Nadda has nominated a four-member delegation to visit Tamil Nadu, where BJP workers are facing brutal and irrational behaviour from Tamil Nadu government. The delegation will submit report at the earliest.” The team members include former Karnataka Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda, Satya Pal Singh, former Mumbai police commissioner, BJP Andhra Pradesh President D. Purandeswari and Karnataka MP P.C. Mohan.
Party’s Tamil Nadu State President K. Annamalai welcomed the move and said, “The DMK government has only displayed fascist tendencies since it came to power in May 2021.” Annamalai tweeted that the party’s social media functionaries have been “constantly harassed and arrested on frivolous charges” and alleged exaggerated sections are imposed.
Annamalai alleged most of the cases are being filed by DMK functionaries and police are pressurised to make the arrests to satisfy the ego of DMK ministers. He charged the DMK government and police of double standards and said no action was being taken on complaints filed by the party. “The DMK government is known for making targeted arrests of those popular in social and mainstream media but has looked the other way towards genuine complaints filed by BJP TN,” he said.
