ITDC INDIA EPRESS/ ITDC NEWS R CPI (Maoist), it seems, correctly anticipated that the Union government would repeal the three contentious farm laws ahead of the assembly elections in Punjab and Uttar Pradesh.
In a statement issued by the central committee late last month after its meeting in September, it had said that the farm bills could be withdrawn just before the elections in the two states. The outfit, therefore, asked the farmer organisations protesting against the law, to continue with the agitation till the laws were repealed.
“It will not be surprising if the Hindutva forces that were defeated in the West Bung (Bengal) elections promise to annul the bureaucratic laws so as to compete without fear in the coming elections. Our party appeals to the peasantry to not believe the deceptive Brahmanic Hindutva forces and to continue the movement with utmost consciousness until the acts are withdrawn by the Parliament,” Maoist central committee spokesman Abhay said in a statement last month.
The banned outfit has alleged that around 500 farmers died in the agitation.
The CPI (Maoist) also said that it has appealed to all organisations connected with the movement to ensure BJP's defeat in the upcoming elections in UP. However, it did not mention the Punjab election, where the BJP is, reportedly, not a strong force.
“Our Party has already appealed to the peasant movement to give a call to defeat the Hindutva forces in the coming elections to the UP Assembly. It firmly supports the call to ‘be determined to defeat BJP’. The CC (Central Committee) once again clarifies that the revolutionary farmers’ organisations of all states in the leadership of our party will further unite with the Hindu and Muslim farmers struggling for the annulment of the bureaucratic agriculture laws. The CC appeals to the Samyukta Kisan Morcha to make the 25 Maha Panchayats in a unique manner arranged to preserve the country, the peasantry, traders, employees and youth of the country that kept the country for sale,” said the statement issued by the central committee.
“Our party supported the call to hold all India Bandh on the 27th September to intensify the militant peasant movement going on in the country for the past 10 months in the meeting (central committee),” the statement said.
