ITDC INDIA EPRESS/ITDC NEWS R Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said on Thursday that former Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh was removed from his post after he refused to provide free electricity to the poor. Rahul claimed Amarinder did not agree to the free electricity decision as he had a contract with the power supplying companies.
"I will tell you why Captain Amarinder Singh was removed as the chief minister of Punjab. It was because he did not agree to provide free electricity to the poor people. He said I have a contract with the power supplying companies," Rahul said addressing an election rally in Fatehgarh Sahib.
Amarinder resigned as the chief minister of Punjab in September 2021 after a prolonged power tussle with Congress state president Navjot Singh Sidhu. He later launched the Punjab Lok Congress, a new political outfit, and announced alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party for the Assembly elections.
In his address, Rahul reiterated that Punjab is not a state where experiments should be done while maintaining that development and growth will be meaningless if drugs mafia continues to destroy life of the youth.
Punjab goes to polls on February 20 and counting will take place on March 10.
