ITDC INDIA EPRESS/ITDC NEWS R Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut on Friday claimed the BJP's victory in the Uttar Pradesh elections had help from the BSP and AIMIM.
The BSP had won just one seat in the UP assembly election, but had a total vote share of nearly 13 per cent, while the AIMIM secured just 0.43 per cent of the votes.
Raut was quoted by ANI as saying “BJP achieved a great victory. UP was their state, still, [Samajwadi Party chief] Akhilesh Yadav's seats have increased 3 times, from 42 to over 125. [BSP chief] Mayawati and [AIMIM's Asaduddin] Owaisi have contributed to BJP's win, so they must be given Padma Vibhushan, Bharat Ratna.”
Raut also argued the BJP lost badly in Punjab. “BJP has won in 4 states, we don't have anything to be upset about, we're a part of your happiness. Why did Uttarakhand CM lose? 2 deputy CMs lost in Goa. Most concerning issue is Punjab; a nationalist party like BJP has been rejected completely in Punjab. The PM, Home Minister, Defence Minister, everyone campaigned tremendously in Punjab, then why did you lose in Punjab? UP, Uttarakhand, Goa was yours already, which is fine. But, you have lost more in Punjab as compared to Congress and Shiv Sena in UP,” Raut said.
On Friday, BSP chief Mayawati blamed the media and the Samajwadi Party for the BSP's loss. “We have gathered feedback from the entire state. The casteist media, nasty scheming, constant negative campaigning to mislead Muslims and anti-BJP Hindus have been successful to a large extent. They created a perception that the BSP is a B-team of the BJP and is not fighting against it as vigorously as SP is. The truth is entirely the opposite,” Mayawati was quoted as saying by NDTV.
