ITDC INDIA EPRESS/ITDC NEWS R The Congress on Tuesday sacked Americai V. Narayanan from the post of party’s spokesperson in Tamil Nadu after he publicly criticised Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and demanded that leaders like Mamata Banerjee return to the grand old party.
Narayanan, a member of the All India Congress Committee (AICC), had told a TV channel that Rahul and Priyanka should step aside as they failed to deliver in the Assembly elections.
“I request Sonia Gandhi to be one among equals in the decision-making body and I request Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi to stay aside (sic)," the Congress leader was quoted as saying by NDTV.
Narayan said leaders like Mamata Banerjee, Sharad Pawar, Jagan Mohan Reddy and K. Chandrasekhar Rao should return to the Congress to restore the people’s confidence in the party. Despite the fact that Banerjee has not been on good terms with the Congress for quite some time, Narayan claimed that she has better odds of becoming the prime minister being in the Congress rather than the Trinamool Congress.
Banerjee, who has intensified her efforts to form a coalition of opposition parties after she fell out with the Congress over cobbling together an alliance in Goa, had claimed that no regional outfit is on friendly terms with the main opposition party.
The Congress leadership has been under fire after its humiliating defeat in the recently concluded Assembly elections in five states. The party lost Punjab and failed to return to power in Goa, Manipur and Uttarakhand.
