ITDC INDIA EPRESS/ ITDC NEWS If Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was in the line of attack of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday, on Monday it was the turn of the Congress. Inaugurating a bulk drug park in Bharuch, Modi indirectly hit out at the UPA governments.
Addressing a gathering at Amod in Bharuch, Modi inaugurated and laid foundation stones of projects running into crores of rupees. He is on a three-day visit to the state where assembly elections will be held by the year-end.
On Sunday at Modhera, Modi had indirectly attacked the AAP over its promise of free electricity.
At Bharuch, Modi said that the previous government (in Gujarat) did not promote religious tourism in the region. He also went on to allege that the voice of Gujarat was not heard even when top leaders from Gujarat were sitting in New Delhi. Modi was apparently referring to late Congress leader Ahmed Patel, who hailed from Bharuch.
Mentioning the projects that are coming up in the region, Modi remarked that the total amount involved in the projects for which foundation stones were laid or inaugurations were done was more than the budgets of the governments before 20 years.
The prime minister emphasised on the work done by the BJP in last 20 years in Gujarat and again dwelled upon the “Double Engine Governments of Narendra and Bhupendra”.
Modi said that today’s youth aged between 20 and 22 years would not know the kind of problems that the region faced. There used to be salinity ingress and water shortage that led to people migrating from the area, he recalled.
He also mentioned how girls are able to move freely at nights in Gujarat.
He mocked the previous governments (the Congress) for giving assistance like loan for buying hens to the tribals.
Development can take place if the atmosphere and infrastructure is good and, there is law and order. In the 75th year of India, today is the time for the youth to enter into the golden era and the opportunity should not be lost, he said, indirectly seeking votes.
Modi appealed to the masses to buy Indian-made crackers. “They may shine or make little noise as compared to crackers coming from abroad but it will brighten the homes of the manufacturers for the whole year,” he pointed out.
He said the way Bharuch has developed, it needs an airport of its own and cannot depend on airports in Surat and Vadodara. Hence foundation stone for an airport in Ankleshwar has been laid, he said.
The prime minister paid homage to Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav at the beginning of his address. Later in the day, Modi is scheduled to visit Ahmedabad and Jamnagar.
