CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the NIELIT Deemed University during a historic event in Guwahati. This is the first “recognized university” under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). On this occasion, five additional centers in the Northeast and a total of 12 centers across the country were also inaugurated.

An MoU was signed during the event between NIELIT and Tata Electronics Private Limited (TEPL). This partnership focuses on Semiconductor ATMP technology, training centers, and advanced diploma programs. NIELIT Director-General M.M. Tripathi and TEPL CEO Randhir Thakur signed the MoU.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw reiterated the government’s commitment to making India a leader in fields like semiconductors and artificial intelligence. He highlighted that the university would serve as a hub for new opportunities, especially for the youth in the Northeast region. The minister also announced a new NIELIT campus near Guwahati, in Jagiroad.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that Assam would become a pioneer in manufacturing “Made in India” and “Made in Assam” chips. The state government approved the land allocation for the NIELIT campus in Jagiroad in record time.

Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya called this initiative a historic step, noting that the university would provide advanced education in emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and blockchain.

This initiative aims to prepare youth for employment and establish India as a global leader in the digital domain.
