CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The Bharatiya Janata Party has stepped up its election preparations in Uttarakhand ahead of the 2027 Assembly polls. As part of this exercise, BJP national president Nitin Nabin will be on a two-day visit to Uttarakhand on September 9 and 10. His visit will begin from Haldwani, where the political atmosphere is already charged over the alleged “purification” controversy that surfaced after Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s rally.

Nitin Nabin will reach Haldwani on September 9 for a meeting of the state core committee. Meetings related to the state core committee and the organisation will review preparations for the upcoming Assembly elections. Issues such as booth management, the state of the organisation and election strategy are likely to be discussed. The BJP state leadership has already set a target of returning to power for a third consecutive term in 2027. In this context, the national president’s visit is being seen as an effort to activate the party’s organisational structure for the elections.

On the second day of the tour, September 10, Nitin Nabin will visit Rudrapur for social outreach. He is scheduled to address a gathering of ex-servicemen and interact with members of the Sikh community. This indicates that the BJP does not want to limit itself to organisational preparations, but is also emphasising strengthening its political reach among different social groups before the elections.

The Haldwani “purification” controversy relates to the alleged purification of the venue after Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s public meeting in Haldwani. The Congress has targeted the BJP and the Uttarakhand government over the incident and demanded action. Kharge has written to BJP president JP Nadda seeking registration of an FIR in the matter and action against those responsible. The Congress says no action has been taken despite several days having passed since the incident. The matter has now reached the Uttarakhand High Court as well. A public interest litigation has sought preservation of videos and CCTV footage related to the alleged incident.

The 2027 election is important for the BJP in Uttarakhand because the party will try to form the government for a third consecutive time. Nitin Nabin’s visit is taking place at a time when the Congress is attacking the BJP over the controversy. In such a situation, the BJP president will face the challenge of strengthening the organisation while also shaping the political message.

The tour includes engagement with the organisation and social groups from Haldwani to Rudrapur. This is being viewed as an indication that the BJP wants to sharpen its strategy on booth-level preparations, social equations and regional issues before the elections.

For now, allegations and counter-allegations between the Congress and the BJP continue over the “purification” controversy. Attention will also be on what political response comes from the BJP on this issue during Nitin Nabin’s Haldwani visit.
