CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The Regional Science Center, Bhopal, in collaboration with the Center for Science and Society, IISER Bhopal, organized a panel discussion on the topic “Beyond the Prize: The Impact of Nobel-Winning Research: Nobel Prize 2024.” Three distinguished scientists from IISER Bhopal participated in the discussion, highlighting the Nobel-winning topics in Physics, Chemistry, and Physiology or Medicine for this year.
Director Auditya Sharma from the Physics Department, IISER Bhopal, spoke about the contributions of John Hopfield and Geoffrey Hinton in machine learning and artificial neural networks (ANN), for which they were awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics this year. Director Bharadwaj Satyamurthy from the Chemistry Department discussed protein structure design and prediction, the work for which David Baker, Demis Hassabis, and John Jumper jointly received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry. Director Himanshu Kumar from the Biological Sciences Department shed light on the role of microRNA in gene regulation within our bodies, a discovery for which Victor Ambros and Gary Ruvkun were awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.
The purpose of the panel discussion was to inform young minds about the significant discoveries of the 2024 Nobel laureates in Physics, Chemistry, and Physiology or Medicine. The distinguished scientists from IISER Bhopal discussed the revolutionary work of John Hopfield, Geoffrey Hinton, David Baker, Demis Hassabis, John Jumper, Victor Ambros, and Gary Ruvkun.
Over 374 students from various schools and colleges participated in the event, engaging with experts and gaining insights into the latest advancements in scientific research.
