Mumbai. Bollywood actor Nora Fatehi’s name is once again in the spotlight in connection with the alleged ₹200 crore cheating and extortion case linked to Sukesh Chandrashekhar. The actor’s legal team has clarified that Nora is neither an accused in the case nor is she accused of involvement in any crime. She has been called to court only as a witness.
According to the legal team, Nora was required to appear for testimony during the hearing of the case at Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court on November 2. Her lawyers told the court that she had received the summons at very short notice and could not appear because of previously scheduled professional commitments. An application was then filed seeking exemption from personal appearance. The court adjourned the hearing of the matter until November 6 and issued a fresh summons to Nora.
The case relates to allegations that Sukesh Chandrashekhar, while lodged in Delhi’s Rohini Jail, allegedly impersonated senior government officials and extorted around ₹200 crore from Aditi Singh, wife of former Fortis promoter Shivinder Mohan Singh.
During the investigation, Nora was questioned about alleged contact with Sukesh and his wife Leena Maria Paulos, and about expensive gifts. She was later included as a prosecution witness in the supplementary chargesheet of the Delhi Police’s Economic Offences Wing.
The legal team has said that Nora will testify to assist the court. No action has been recorded against her as an accused in this case.
