Bollywood actress Nora Fatehi testified on Friday in Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court in the alleged Rs 200 crore extortion case linked to alleged conman Sukesh Chandrashekhar. She told the court that during a charity event held in Chennai in December 2020, Sukesh’s wife Leena Maria Paulos had met her and made her speak to her husband on the phone. Nora is not an accused in the case, but a prosecution witness.
According to Nora, Leena had booked her for the Chennai event through an agency named Exceed Entertainment. She had been invited to the programme as the chief guest and was also given the role of judge in a dance competition. The actress said that before the event, Leena came to meet her in her hotel room along with members of her family and some other people. They also had gifts with them.
Nora told the court that after introducing herself, Leena said her husband wanted to speak to her. She then called Sukesh and put the conversation on speaker. Sukesh thanked her for coming to the event and spoke about holding such programmes in the future as well. During the same conversation, Leena mentioned gifting a car, and Sukesh also requested her to accept it.
Court expresses displeasure over delay in appearance
Nora had earlier also been issued summons to appear before the court. On November 6, when her lawyer sought exemption from personal appearance, the court expressed displeasure and said that as a witness she should be present and should not take the court lightly. The court has directed Nora to appear again on November 30 for further testimony.
The case relates to allegations that Sukesh Chandrashekhar, while lodged in Delhi’s Rohini Jail, allegedly posed as a government official and extorted around Rs 200 crore from Aditi Singh. Nora’s statement is part of the investigation and trial in the case.
