Mumbai. Bollywood actress Nora Fatehi’s name has been in discussion in connection with the alleged Rs 200 crore extortion and money laundering case linked to Sukesh Chandrashekhar. Meanwhile, her legal team has clarified that Nora is not an accused in the case and that she has not been accused of involvement in any crime. She has been called to court only as a witness.

According to the legal team, Nora was required to appear to testify during the hearing of the case at Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court on November 2. Her lawyers told the court that she had received the summons at very short notice and could not appear because of previously scheduled professional commitments. An application was then moved seeking exemption from personal appearance. The court adjourned the hearing until November 6 and issued a fresh summons to Nora.

The case relates to allegations that Sukesh Chandrashekhar, while lodged in Delhi’s Rohini jail, impersonated senior government officials and allegedly extorted around Rs 200 crore from Aditi Singh, wife of former Fortis promoter Shivinder Mohan Singh.

During the investigation, Nora was questioned about her alleged contact with Sukesh and his wife Leena Maria Paulos, and about expensive gifts. Police recorded her statement and later included her as a prosecution witness in the supplementary chargesheet.

Nora’s legal team has said the actress will cooperate with the court proceedings as a witness. Before reaching any conclusion about her role in the case, it will be necessary to consider the testimony to be recorded in court and the facts of the investigation.
