CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Iran has hardened its position amid continuing tensions with the United States over its nuclear programme and efforts to end the war. Secretary of Iran’s National Security Council Mohsen Rezaei has said clearly that the country’s enriched uranium will not be sent abroad. He also said talks are unlikely to move forward until the United States takes concrete steps to meet Iran’s conditions and restore trust. Iran’s statement came during Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir’s visit to Tehran.
“Not even one gram of enriched uranium will leave Iran,” Mohsen Rezaei said on the social media platform X. He described it as the national property of the Iranian people, which should be used only inside the country. According to Rezaei, trust must be restored before talks with the United States can resume, and that process should begin with the fulfilment of Iran’s conditions.
Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir has arrived in Tehran in an effort to reduce tensions between the United States and Iran and to revive stalled peace talks. He met senior leaders, including Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf. The meetings discussed the regional situation and mediation efforts. However, Iran’s latest statement makes it clear that serious obstacles remain in the path of restarting talks.
Iranian leaders have indicated that the United States will have to meet several conditions for negotiations to move forward. These include ending the US blockade of Iranian ports, lifting restrictions on Iran’s oil exports and stopping hostilities on various fronts in the region. Iran has said that until there is concrete progress on its demands, it will be difficult to restore trust in the United States.
The nuclear programme remains at the centre of the dispute. The United States and its allies have repeatedly expressed concern over Iran’s uranium enrichment programme. Washington wants Iran to significantly reduce its enrichment capacity and prevent any possibility of developing nuclear weapons. Iran, on the other hand, says its nuclear programme is for peaceful purposes and denies any intention to build nuclear weapons. Iran’s latest stance has made a possible agreement with the United States more complicated. The prospects for regional peace will now depend on Pakistan’s mediation and efforts by both countries to restore trust.
