CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: At Bhopal Memorial Hospital and Research Centre (BMHRC), surgeries related to kidney, ureter stones, and prostate can now be performed using laser technology. The hospital has acquired a Holmium Laser Machine (100 watts). BMHRC’s Acting Director Manisha Srivastava, in the presence of Arvind Rai, Head of the Surgery Department at Hamidia Hospital, dedicated it to the patients.

Manisha Srivastava explained that until now, kidney stone operations at the hospital were performed using the PCNL (Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy) procedure, which involved making an incision in the back and destroying the stone using a lithotripter. With this new machine, stones in the kidney and ureter can be destroyed without an incision by accessing them through the urethra (urinary tract). This method can destroy stones up to 2 centimeters in size. Additionally, prostate operations can also be performed without an incision using this machine.

Dr. Sharik Ul Hasan, Head of the Urology Department at BMHRC, stated that there are several benefits to laser surgeries. Without an incision, patients experience less pain, there is no risk of excessive bleeding, and patients recover faster and are discharged from the hospital sooner.

New Machines Coming Soon

Dr. Manisha Srivastava mentioned that the hospital’s old equipment and machines are being upgraded, and new machines are being purchased. Soon, a urodynamic machine will also be available in the urology department. Moreover, the process of acquiring some additional machines is underway. In the future, kidney transplant facilities will also be provided.”
