CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Nursing Council Under Fire for Negligence: NSUI Demands Action
The Madhya Pradesh Nurses Registration Council recently issued recognition to GNM (General Nursing and Midwifery) and B.Sc. Nursing colleges. Recognition was granted only to those colleges deemed suitable by two CBI investigations and the High Court-appointed committee.
Recognized Colleges and Seats:
Number of GNM Nursing Colleges: 138
Number of B.Sc. Nursing Colleges: 156
Total GNM Nursing Seats: 6,816
Total B.Sc. Nursing Seats: 7,864
Course Details:
GNM (General Nursing and Midwifery): A three-year diploma course including six months of internship.
B.Sc. Nursing: A four-year undergraduate degree program.
However, NSUI State Vice President Ravi Parmar accused the council and the government of gross negligence. He criticized the decision to issue recognition for the 2024-25 session in January 2025, calling it a disservice to students. He stated that more than half the academic session has passed, adversely affecting students’ syllabus and forcing thousands to migrate to other states.
Concerns Over Fees and Scholarships
Ravi Parmar also raised concerns about the lack of a structured fee policy, alleging that college operators are charging arbitrary fees, leading to financial exploitation of students and their families. He further highlighted that nursing students have not received scholarships for the past four years, creating financial hardships and reflecting the government’s apathy towards education.
NSUI’s Key Demands:
Fee Regulation: Immediate determination of a transparent fee structure to curb exploitation.
Scholarship Distribution: Prompt disbursement of pending scholarships to nursing students.
Compensation Measures: Provision of extra classes and additional support to mitigate students’ losses.
Action Against Fake Colleges: Strict action against any recognition of fraudulent nursing colleges, failing which NSUI will launch a statewide protest.
NSUI has warned that if these issues are not addressed promptly, it will escalate the matter through large-scale movements. NSUI is committed to fighting for students’ rights on every platform, from the streets to official forums.
