CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: New Delhi. Shocking details have emerged in the investigation into a serious security incident on a Flydubai flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv on September 30. According to reports, Omani co-pilot Hammam al-Hammami allegedly planned to take control of the aircraft after attacking the plane’s captain, Smit Machhar, and deliberately crash it into a building. Citing investigators, the alleged plan is being described as similar to the attacks of September 11, 2001.

According to reports, the co-pilot’s alleged plan was first to remove the captain from his way and gain control of the aircraft. He then allegedly intended to fly the plane over Tel Aviv and try to crash it into a high-rise building or into another aircraft at Ben Gurion Airport. Initial investigation has suggested that he may have acted alone. However, the investigation is still continuing.

During the incident, the co-pilot attacked the captain inside the cockpit. Despite being seriously injured, the captain managed to open the cockpit door, after which passengers and crew members overpowered the attacker. The aircraft was later landed safely in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia. More than 170 people were on board.

A new report has also claimed that the co-pilot allegedly tried to switch off the fuel switches of both engines. Investigators are verifying this claim through flight data and other evidence. The aircraft descended by about 16,000 feet within a short time. It is currently not clear whether the action involving the engines was deliberate or not.
