CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: On the occasion of International Thalassemia Day, an awareness and sensitization program was organized by the Department of Pediatric Medicine at AIIMS Bhopal, in collaboration with IP Bhopal. The program aimed to raise awareness among thalassemia patients, their parents, and many other patients and caregivers. Ajay Singh, the Executive Director of AIIMS Bhopal, emphasized the importance of early intervention and education in preventing and managing thalassemia, highlighting the crucial role of awareness campaigns in prevention and management. He said, “It is paramount to deal with the disease effectively with timely intervention and proper care. With timely intervention and proper care, we can significantly reduce the burden of thalassemia and improve the quality of life of affected individuals.”

Every year, Thalassemia Day is observed worldwide. This year’s theme, “Empowering life, embracing progress: Ensuring equitable and accessible thalassemia care for all,” sheds light on the critical need for concerted efforts to ensure the safe and approved access of patients to all treatments. Dr. Yogendra Singh Yadav (Associate Prof.) educated people about thalassemia diseases and the treatment facilities available at AIIMS Bhopal. Srishti (Senior Resident) explained thalassemia diseases, their complexities, management, and prevention. Emphasis was also placed on the need for preconception genetic counseling for families affected by thalassemia. Parents of patients also actively participated by asking questions related to thalassemia and engaging in this activity.
