CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: In celebration of the birth anniversary of the novel emperor Munshi Premchand, a story reading and discussion event was organized by the National Service Scheme and the Hindi Department of Rabindranath Tagore University and Maharani Lakshmi Bai Girls College, Bhopal.
Journalism student Vikas Trivedi read “Panch Parmeshwar,” and Ambika Prasad read “Eidgah.” Ten organizations with twenty youths shared their thoughts on these stories.
The chief speaker, senior Hindi professor and author Dr. Sudhir Sharma, stated that Munshi Premchand’s literature remains as relevant today as it was 100 years ago. He praised Premchand for his nuanced portrayal of common people’s problems and his role in reflecting societal issues. He expressed satisfaction that, despite heavy rain, the youth organized this reading and discussion.
Guest speaker Sonam Sharma, a member of the Premchand Sharatchandra Memorial Committee, remarked that Premchand seemed to ignite the spark of social revolution effortlessly, aiming to both preserve the social fabric and create a stir within society.
Program coordinator and young author Gabbar Singh emphasized that Premchand strives to make us society-focused citizens, a quality that seems lacking in contemporary literature, which often leads to self-indulgence. Singh likened Premchand to Kabir, noting his critical approach to the flaws in all religions and classes.
The event also featured addresses by Atar Sahu of Youth for Service and young author Dr. Mousumi Parihar. The program was conducted by Sonia Meena and Avinash Kumar, with Dr. Rekha Gupta offering the vote of thanks.
