CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Bhopal: During the G7 Summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi raised the issue of the deaths of Indian citizens amid global conflicts and stressed the need to ensure maritime security and the safety of seafarers.
The Prime Minister said that in the present international situation, protecting sea trade routes and safeguarding the lives of those working there is a shared responsibility of the entire world.
In his address, Modi referred to incidents in which Indian citizens have lost their lives in recent days. He said the impact of any conflict does not remain limited to the countries directly involved, but affects citizens across the world and the global economy. He also appealed to the international community to move forward through dialogue, restraint and peace.
The Prime Minister’s statement came at a time when concern continues worldwide over tensions and military activity in West Asia. He said maritime routes are the lifeline of global trade and ensuring their security should be a priority for all countries. He also underlined the need for a safe working environment for seafarers and employees linked to the maritime sector.
However, after the Prime Minister’s address, Opposition parties began targeting the government. The Opposition has alleged that despite referring to the deaths of Indian citizens, the Prime Minister did not name the United States. Opposition leaders say that when Indian lives are at stake, the government should adopt a clearer and stronger stand.
The Congress and other Opposition parties said India should not take a soft approach towards any country on the issue of the safety of its citizens. The Opposition claims India should have sent a clear message on the international stage that the security of Indian citizens is paramount.
On the other hand, government supporters say the Prime Minister forcefully placed India’s concerns on the international stage. They argue that in diplomacy, conveying a broader message is often considered more effective than directly naming a country. According to them, India has tried to make the safety of its citizens and the security of maritime routes part of the global agenda.
Political analysts say the issue is not limited to a single statement, but has also opened a debate on India’s foreign policy and diplomatic approach. One side describes it as balanced diplomacy, while the other says it was not sufficiently outspoken.
Experts believe that in the current global situation, India has to balance its strategic relationships with its national interests. That is why statements made at international forums are also viewed through the lens of domestic politics.
In the coming days, the issue could intensify in Parliament and on political platforms. The Opposition may demand greater clarity from the government, while the government may be seen defending its diplomatic stand. For now, the Prime Minister’s statement and the political controversy over it have sparked a fresh debate in national politics.
