CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Opposition MPs to head to Rajghat after CP lunch, traffic alert

New Delhi. Opposition alliance MPs are preparing to move towards Rajghat on Thursday after lunch at Connaught Place in Delhi as part of their protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has organised lunch for the opposition MPs at Moets restaurant in Connaught Place. After this, the MPs are likely to reach Rajghat and stage a protest.

In view of the possible march by opposition MPs, Delhi Police have stepped up security in Connaught Place and central Delhi. Additional police personnel have been deployed. Earlier, on Wednesday too, opposition MPs had left for Jantar Mantar by buses after lunch, but police stopped them on the way.

Meanwhile, Delhi Traffic Police have issued a special traffic advisory for Rajghat-Kishan Ghat Road and nearby areas. Traffic is likely to be affected on this route from 1 pm to 4 pm. Motorists have been advised to avoid this stretch and, if needed, use the alternative route via JLN Marg – Minto Road – Ajmeri Gate.

In addition, traffic may be affected on JLN Marg, Minto Road and Maharaja Ranjit Singh Marg from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm due to a proposed rally by students of Zakir Husain Delhi College. Traffic Police have appealed to people to plan their journeys in advance, give priority to public transport and follow the instructions of police personnel deployed on the spot.

In view of the proposed protest at Rajghat, police have also imposed restrictions on gatherings there. In such a situation, the position may change depending on the opposition MPs’ next move and the police arrangements.
