CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Lucknow. Political activity has intensified in Uttar Pradesh ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections. Talks are continuing between the Samajwadi Party and the Congress over an alliance, and opposition parties appear to be moving towards contesting the elections together. However, a final agreement on seat-sharing is still awaited.
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has said that his party’s alliance with the Congress will continue in the 2027 Assembly elections. He also indicated that the alliance’s aim is not merely to divide seats, but to perform better jointly in the election. It has emerged that decisions on seats will be taken keeping winnability in mind. Meanwhile, the Congress has changed its leadership to strengthen the organisation in Uttar Pradesh. Aradhana Mishra has been appointed state Congress president and Imran Masood has been made working president. The party is focusing on organisational preparations ahead of the election.
On the other hand, the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance is also engaged in election preparations. Apna Dal (S) leader Anupriya Patel has denied any major problem over seat-sharing in the alliance and has said the election will be fought together with all allies. The strategies of the Samajwadi Party, the Congress, the BJP and its allies in Uttar Pradesh politics will become clearer in the coming months. For now, the most important issues are seat coordination within the opposition alliance and the ground-level preparations of both sides.
