CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: On the second day of the Monsoon Session in the Chhattisgarh Assembly, chaos broke out during the Question Hour over the Jal Jeevan Mission. Former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel questioned the state government’s claim of providing water connections to 10 lakh homes in just seven months.

Baghel accused the BJP-led “double engine” government of presenting misleading figures. He said only ₹3,500 crore has been spent so far, achieving just 57% of the mission’s target. Deputy CM Arun Sao hit back, stating the previous Congress government installed taps without providing actual water connections. “If you had done your job on time, the situation wouldn’t have worsened,” he remarked.

According to Sao, while 36 lakh tap connections were shown by 2023-end, verification revealed that only 21 lakh homes were actually receiving water. “The Congress showed inflated numbers just to meet targets,” he alleged.

The heated exchange led to an Opposition walkout, accusing the government of misleading the House with manipulated data and slow progress in rural water delivery.

The session also included questions about CSR fund utilization in Bastar, where BJP MLA Kiran Singhdev raised concerns over reduced allocation. Industry Minister Lakhanlal Dewangan assured that more development works would be approved.

As political tension grows, the Jal Jeevan Mission has become a flashpoint in the Assembly, reflecting deepening divisions over public infrastructure and rural welfare delivery in Chhattisgarh.
