CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal : Farmers’ Welfare and Agriculture Development Minister Edal Singh Kanshana stated that the Indian Government’s Organic Farming Portal has connected over 600,000 farmers so far, aiming to provide them with market access for their organic products. The International Competence Centre for Organic Agriculture (ICCOA – ECOFA) has linked nearly 300,000 farmers over the past 21 years through training and product certification.

Minister Kanshana addressed the farmers as the chief guest at an event organized by ECOFA at Sayaji Hotel in Bhopal. Farmers from Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka participated in the program.

The Agriculture Minister highlighted that this initiative is part of the Government of India’s Traditional Agriculture Development Scheme, which promotes natural and organic farming across the country. Under this scheme, approximately 2.5 million farmers have benefited over 1.5 million hectares. In Madhya Pradesh, under the leadership of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, about 750,000 farmers are practicing organic farming.

Minister Kanshana emphasized that the program provides a direct platform for dialogue between farmers and sellers, benefiting not only Madhya Pradesh farmers but also farmers nationwide. He added that this initiative encourages farmers to adopt organic practices and ensures better market access and fair pricing for their produce.

Minister Kanshana also noted, “As a farmer myself, I know exactly how much fertilizer is needed for crops. Many of our farmers are using excessive fertilizer to increase profits, which adversely affects our health. Earlier, we used to raise cows and buffaloes at home, which ensured greater purity. Therefore, promoting animal husbandry alongside farming is essential.”
